Coughlin Sees Race Wins Ahead for Slammers
Ultimate Milk Team, Possibly at Atlanta
COMMERCE, Ga., April 23, 2007 – Bravo! Brands Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: BRVO): His latest resume shows one final round appearance, semifinal and quarterfinal finishes and two top qualifier awards in succession in his first five 2007 races driving the Cagnazzi Racing Slammers Ultimate Milk Pro Stock Chevy Cobalt.
This is just the beginning. Jeg Coughlin sees race wins forcing edits to his career totals. Perhaps as early as Sunday in NHRA’s Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway.
“We had a near-flawless outing at Las Vegas (April 15) with (teammate) Dave (Connolly) finishing third and me finishing in second place,” said Coughlin, “ so we are definitely making steps in the right direction. The race before that we were third and fourth, respectively.”
The two couldn’t have come any closer in qualifying at Vegas, each putting up 6.733-second elapsed times. The nod went to Coughlin, who had a faster speed, 204.26 mph to 205.26.
Performances like that illustrate Cagnazzi’s objective of fielding two cars that are as equal as possible in this series where wins regularly come by margins of mere thousandths of a second.
“The approach Victor arranged with crew chiefs Tommy Utt (Connolly) and Roy Simmons certainly promoted an environment where there is no competing within the team,” Coughlin said. “We have two identical cars that come from Victor’ s chassis shop and engines prepared by Cagnazzi Racing under the hood and all
the effort that comes from the entire team. But it is orchestrated by Victor. Nobody wants to see our yellow and black cars run better than Vic. And that’s apparent because of the way he has been able to pull everything together in the last two 60 days.
“They have done a great job putting all their efforts together to give us two cars that are capable of going down the racetrack consistently. That gives Davey and me a lot of confidence behind the wheel.
“The next big step for us is to turn on the win light in round 4 on Sunday. Everybody on the team obviously wants to see us win and everybody on the team is working as hard as they can to prevent mistakes and give us every opportunity to the driver to get out there and win.”
It appeared Coughlin and Connolly were on a final-round course at Vegas but Connolly’s Torco Racing Fuels/Slammers Ultimate Milk Cobalt fell four-thousandths of a second shy of accomplishing the mission.
Not to fret, there are 18 more opportunities remaining this season.
The 16th of Coughlin’s 34 victories came at Atlanta Dragway in 2000 while he was on the way his first series title.
Connolly, third in POWERade Series standings, holds a slight edge on Coughlin, 329-315.
“The Southern Nationals was one of those races we always used to come to back in the late 1970s and early 1980s,” said Coughlin. “I have a lot of memories about coming here.”
A Salute to Coughlin, All Former POWERade Series Champions
“POWERade is hosting a Night of Champions dinner for all former series champions, dating back to 2002, their first year and the year I won in Pro Stock,” he said. My father (Jeg Sr.) and mom (Sue) are coming up from Florida to accompany me. It’s quite an honor to be in such select company.”
