<< LEE'S SUCCESSFUL NEW CAR DEBUT SOMETHING TO BUILD ON  >>

BRAINERD, Minn. (August 13, 2006) -- The Slammers Ultimate Milk Pro Stock team debuted their new Chevy Cobalt during the Lucas Oil Nationals in Brainerd, Minnesota this weekend. The new Slammers machine was built completely in-house at Cagnazzi Racing and showed great potential, qualifying no. 8 out of 24 cars.

"This new car is a nice one," driver Tommy Lee said. "Todd Bevis and the guys at the shop did a heck of a job putting it together. It runs great, goes straight, and responds to changes in the tune-up. What more could you ask for?"

Lee's new Slammers Ultimate Milk Chevy Cobalt, placed him in the top half of the field for the first time since he took over driving duties for the team in July, something that made crew chief Roy Simmons happy.

"Not bad for a brand new car with only seven runs on it," Simmons said. "Just shows that Victor's [Cagnazzi, team owner] concepts work. The car came off the jig and picked up right where the other one left off. That consistency and repeatability really pays off."

Lee faced no. 9 qualifier Mike Edwards in Sunday's first elimination round, which was held off due to rain showers in the area. During the down-time Lee spent over an hour signing autographs at the Snap-On hospitality tent.

"The fans here in Brainerd are some of the best on the tour," Lee said. "The skies were ugly all day, but the stands were packed even with rain coming. I must have signed 400 autographs for Snap-On alone."

When racing resumed, the Lee and Edwards' match-up was one of the closest battles of the first round. At the start, Lee cut a good .029 light to Edwards' impressive .018 light. At the finish, Edwards came out on top with a 6.786 to Lee's game 6.799.

"The no. 8 and no. 9 cars are the closest matched in first round anyways," Lee said. "Mike is a good driver, and I knew it would be a good race. It's disappointing to lose first round, but we did a lot of good this weekend and that'll carry us into Memphis. I can't wait to take my new Slammers Ultimate Milk ride down the track next weekend, and see what else it can do."
