LEE CONTENT WITH DENVER BUT LOOKING FORWARD TO SEATTLE >>
DENVER (July 19, 2006) -- In his debut race with Cagnazzi Racing, veteran Pro Stock driver Tommy Lee enjoyed a solid outing at the Mile-High Nationals in Denver this past weekend, but not the stellar performance he has come to expect out of the Slammers Ultimate Milk
Chevy Cobalt.
"On one hand we made it down the track on every lap, and put it in the program for Sunday." Lee said. "But on the other hand, the car didn't run like we expected it to the whole weekend, we were just slow. I've seen this car run strong most of the year, and I know we have more performance in it than we showed in Denver."
The performance deficit in Denver placed Lee no. 12 position after qualifying with a 7.116 at 194.60 mph, forcing Lee to face reigning Pro Stock champion Greg Anderson in the first round.
With Lee's car uncharacteristically struggling, he knew he would have to push the light to have any chance of beating Anderson, who had qualified no. 5 with a 7.094 at 195.14 mph. Unfortunately Lee cut the tree a little too close and fouled by only .011 seconds, running a 7.21 to Anderson's quicker 7.12.
"We left .04 in the car every pass," team owner Victor Cagnazzi said. "That was the problem the whole weekend. But you know what, there is too much talent on this team for this to hold us back. We'll get it fixed, and put this car back where it belongs, in the top half of the field"
